Water Street/Gregory Street Sewer Replacement Project
map thumbnail

Project Summary: The Water Street sewer is over 50 years old and does not have the capacity to convey existing sewer flows.

Project Details: The Water Street Sewer Replacement Project is critical to the overall capital improvement program for the Town’s wastewater collection system. Sewerage overflows onto the street during significant rain events, and at some locations, the overflowing sewerage flows into the Sudbury River resulting in violations to the federal Clean Water Act. This project is included within the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Administrative Consent Order with the Town for addressing sewer system problems. The Gregory Road Relief Sewer Project addresses capacity limitations with the Gregory Road sewer. A new relief sewer will be constructed in Hemenway Road between Whittemore Road and the Hemenway Pumping Station, which is opposite Merrill Road. The new relief sewer will handle a portion of the flow that the Hemenway and Gregory Road sewer currently conveys and will eliminate wastewater flowing out of manholes during high flows in the Gregory Road area.

Construction Project Updates Restoration work will occur through out the project area. Local sewer installation will occur from the intersection of Nicholas Road and Water Street to Park Avenue. Paving activities will occur on Simpson Drive. The contractor will be working on Veteran's Day.
