Project Summary:
The Fenwick Wastewater Pumping Station and Force Main Replacement Project is critical to the overall capital improvement program for the Town’s wastewater collection system. The pump station and force main are almost 50 years old. During high flow events, a manhole on Central Street overflows directly to the Sudbury River, which is adjacent to the station. Raw sewage overflows are a violation of the Clean Water Act and are subject to regulatory penalties and fines.
Project Details:
Although the station has received modest equipment replacements over its life, it does not currently contain adequate redundancy of equipment and facilities. Also it does not have adequate back-up power as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The force main is being replaced because this pipeline is at risk of failure. In the last three years, the Town has responded to five force main failures at other stations in the Town, which result in increased operation and maintenance costs.
